Human dignity? Where is that right now? I don't see it. Can't wait to have someone affordable bottle and sell it because I sure as hell don't experience a dignified existence right now.

I am a subscriber to trickledown human enhancement: the improvement of some humans will lead to the improvement of others.

As it stands now, many of us with access to cutting edge technology and money are working toward eliminating poverty and promoting happiness (see TED.com and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation).

“Anyone can read to their kids or play them music, but put a piece of software in their heads, and that’s seen as unfair,” + “The guiding principle, perhaps, could be to make sure the technology is cheap enough to be open to all...”
If we applied the principles of Open source software to these “clip ons”, then at least we will have the software available for free. Perhaps we can create a system where there is at least the option of open source modification for anyone who cannot afford proprietary upgrades. When considering modification I think that having open and updatable source code is critical. It is our obligation to ensure that the future is open and not proprietary.
Trans human to sans human.

"risks in technological self-improvement that could jeopardise human dignity" .... Words like 'dignity' and 'morality' should be left out of my science. Will technology divide the human race? Yes, most certainly. It will divide homo sapiens from homo evolutis. Your morals mean nothing to science. Morality is just a fear of doing something different. Science cares not about fear. You should embrace these changes as they will not stop when they begin to make you uncomfortable.
